After perhaps an unexpectedly busy weekend for most Wolves fans the team face a real challenge at Molineux this evening, when they host former PL Champions Manchester City, for City's first game of the season.
Wolves will be hoping to continue their exciting start to the Premiership season following their win at Bramhall Lane last week, although realistically a repeat of last season's double over City may be a lot to ask for!!
Following the £40m sale of Diogo Jota to Liverpool and Matt Doherty's transfer to Spurs, Wolves fans will be keen to see how the squad shapes up for this evening's game, and how many of the new signings make a start, especially considering the poor performance against Stoke midweek. New sigining Ki-Jana Hoever will not be eligible to involved in tonight's game however.
For their part City will be without stars Sergio Aguero and Eymerick Laporte, so Nathan Ake may well make his debut with Gabriel Jesus leading the attack.
Tonight's game will be screened by Sky TV and will kick off at 20:15 hrs. Our referee will be the very experienced André Marriner.
This board will endeavour to carry regular updates, and members are encouraged to post their own observations for the benefit of those unable to watch the game.
Saiss brings down DeBruyne on the edge of the area & he scores the penalty easily lashing it past Rui. An unnecessary challenge by Saiss
Wolves 0 City 1

City started well, Sterling cheats and gets nothing, City dominant, we get back on terms to a degree and sad to say one of the worst defensive tackles by a Wolves player for a long time by Saiss. It’s only one goal but feels like a mountain at the moment
Jesus himself couldnt win this for wolves - I know its city but this is probably the worst performance so far Ive seen in years. We look like a league 2 club desperately hanging on to a premier league club in the cup.. its pathetic
Half time and City deservedly lead by two goals. A very disappointing and unnecessary challenge By Saiss to concede a penalty which DeBruyne despatched coolly. The second scored by Foden after good passing play. Wolves pretty impotent so far. My abiding impression continues to that Adama is NOT a wing back, an£ the sooner we lans Semedo the better!!!
Wolves 0 City 2
How many chances are we going to miss! Jimenez now after Podence who was 1 on 1.
Great to see this much better second half effort which is a miracle in itself but if we can’t hit the net in this positive period it’ll be all for nothing.
Wolves have at least settled down now & largely stopped the flood, and are managing to put some good attacking play together, however we should have scored at least once
Rui denies Jesus again, City wasting as much time as possible.
Jesus squeezes the ball past Rui this time to seal three points
Wolves 1 MannCity 3
And that’s the final score. City were too good for us this time. Despite a spirited fightback in the second half, when Raul scored a great header but we couldn’t keep them out in the end. A disappointing result for us, but our first team probably were not playing tonight, & will be playing when the transfer window closes. Shame Marcel had to go off as I think he would have shored things up a bit at the back.
On to West Ham next Sunday
Neither Vinagre or Saiss are good enough in my opinion.. hopefully both are upgraded next transfer window. I would also say that Moutinho is starting to look like father time has caught up with him
and for love of God, play Traore upfront... he's probably our most dangerous player and wasted at right back which will hopefully be resolved if we sign semedo
Truly awful in the first half, just dreadful followed by a spirited and much better second half ..... but we have to take chances when they come our way ...... and we didn’t which was hugely frustrating and disappointing. We scored a good goal but too little too late ultimately.
When we are second best, as in the first half, we can’t afford to gift penalties and being 2 goals behind .... well, our chances were well and truly diminished.
At least we showed some effort because it was embarrassing after 45.
Decent 2nd half but damage was already done. Should have had a goal before the one we actually did get. Hopefully I'm wrong but sadly it does sometimes look as though time is catching up with Joao and I hope we never see Traore play wing-back again, he was useless there last week and spends more time on his @#$%& than Grealish. Still, with Hoever and, fingers crossed, Semedo we can get him farther forward,
Neves and Moutinho have been our solid midfield rock and inspiration. Neither was on the boil and Traore is terrrible going backward.
Nice night to forget 😟
