After an exciting week during which Wolves have broken their transfer record, brought in three new faces, and - most importantly - seen Nuno Espirito Santo commit to another three years at the club, our season begins in earnest tonight with another trip to Bramhall Lane to play Sheffield United.
After only a five week break since the disappoinment of the Europa League Quarter Final, Wolves face a tricky challenge against a team they were unable to conquer last season. However Nuno is as upbeat and positive as ever. He has said that our new signings - Fabio Silva, Marcal and Vitinho - will all travel as part of the squad, but is not saying whether any will start the game. Sadly Jonny is out of the squad until next year recovering from his knee injury, and of course Matt Doherty has gone to Spurs, so tonight's line-up will be interesting to look forward to.
Tonight's game will be screened by Sky TV on Sky Main Event and Sky Premier League, and will kick off at 6pm wuth the programme starting an hour earlier. Our referee will be Mike Dean, and Wolves fans will be hopeful that he won't want to make himself the star of the show again, as he did at Burnley last season!!
This board will hopefully carry regular updates and members are - as always - encouraged to post their observations for the benefit of those unable to watch it.
An unexpected line-up with Neto and Podence supporting Raul upfront and Donk in midfield with Joao. Marcal starts on the left. Neves on the bench with Fabio Silva and Vitinho:

Sky’s great isn’t it. 30 minutes plus on Liverpool and Manchester United et al.
Anyway, teams coming out via the main stand. In the new home kit, pleased about that, was really worried we’d start in that abomination of an away shirt!! 😂😂
Had a fantastic walk on Dartmoor this afternoon, the weather is just beautiful so the natural next thing is 3 points versus Blades.
When you compares us to the post lockdown performances, I know two goals always help, however we are passing the ball so well. Crisp, to feet and when we are out of possession, they’re all working so hard (which they always do).
26 minutes gone, a long way to go, but this is a great effort so far
Good break by DP to feed Raul but he’s crowded out before he can get a shot away. Our defence are assured & playing well & Marcalseems very comfortable in his position
Gareth Southgate sitting in the stands - probably watching his new protege!!
Rui has to put a long cross over bar but corner is cleared. Joao is lively in the heart of midfield as always
Corner to Wolves in the 1 added minute. Half time after a great start to the season for Wolves. A calmly placed goal from Raul, and a bullet header from Romain Saiss gave us an early lead and we bossed the rest of the half surprisingly easily. Marcel and DP are working well down the left wing and Joao &/Donk are very comfortable in midfield. But.... will we see our new boy in the 2nd half??
Utd 0 Wolves 2
Marcal looked handy, and worked well as a newbie. Let's see how many minutes the new wunderkid gets.
Just hope we don't do something silly just after the break, as so often happens.
Traore doesn’t convince me as a wingback, always seems to have a catastrophic mistake in him.
Good first half but need to stop allowing Sheffield to press, should be pushing them into their own half not inviting them into ours.
Great goals but need some more.
Very good team performance in that first half, a brilliant goal from Jimenez, following a love break and pace from Podence. The second goal put the icing on top of a great first 45. Very much in control all over. Perhaps our weakest area is in the right back position, Traore is no defender!
Fleck hits the post & follow up shot goes for a corner. Good pressure from Utd, but then Wolves break & Adama earns a corner. Saiss nearly gets his second but just wide
Good period of play by Utd but ball is lashed across the area to no avail. Now they have a corner. Perhaps Neves will replace one of our forward 3 soon? Saiss down after his heel was trodden on by Egan accidentally
Great defensive play by CC to denyutd. Oscar Buur being prepared to replace Neto. He will probably go into RWB to allow Adama to go further up the pitch. We will see if he is to replace Doc
Not hitting the heights this half but still playing well. Blades are doing better but some great, compact defending by us and we are dangerous in attack, Saiss, Jimenez and Traore all going close.
Wonderful ball control and attacking play by Adama down left line but selfishly shoots instead of setting up Raul. Raul goes close with a header from the corner.
Adama earns another corner. Marcel booked for a foul. 5 added minutes to play. I agree with Ivy CC has had another excellent game, but Raul gets MotM. Saiss heads clear off the line
All over and a super start to our season with 3 points at Bramhall Lane. Super defensive performance when required and two very good goals. Nuno must be delighted. On that performance I would say bring on City at Molineux!!!
Sheff Utd 0 Wolves 2
Certainly two different halves but we were just as good in both. That was a fantastic finish by Raul and some of the football in the first half was excellent. I hope we don't rush to play Traore at wing back again. He couldn't even take a throw-in and the difference when he was moved further forward was easy to see.
Sheffield were a different side in the second half but that was to be expected, of all teams they won't lie down. We defended well in the second half and still had as many chances to score as they did. Coady was great but for me m.o.m was Saiss.
