Match Thread: Tottenham Hotspur vs Wolves

Two great clubs

By Wolves
March 1 2020

Wolves make their first visit to the new Tottenham Hotspur stadiuum today, seeking to repeat their triumph over the North London club achieved at Wembley last season, and in the knowledge that three points could potentially lift the club into fifth place in the Premier League.

There is perhaps no better time to play Spurs than at the moment, due to the fact that two main elements of their strikeforce are out injured - Harry Kane and Heung Min Son. However Wolves Coach Nuno Espirito Santo will no doubt still be concentrating on the threat that the remainder of his former manager Jose Mourinho's team present.

Wolves defender Jonny Otto Castro is likely to still be absent today after suffering an injury at the end of the Norwich game, but no other injuries have been declared.

The game kicks off at 2pm and our referee will be Stuart Atwell

This board will hopefully post updates of the progress of the game, and members are encouraged to post their own observations for the benefit of those unable to see it.

Looking forward to a good game and suspect that Spurs will sit back and try to contain us as their attacking options are limited. This is just the game for Adama to shine and for Raul and Jota to reap the benefits. Need three points if we are going to be serious about getting a Champions league place. Some Spurs fans I know do not fancy their chances, let’s hope that their misgivings are well placed. Cmon lads.

One change in today's starting eleven: as expected Ruben Vinagre starts instead of the injured Jonny

UTW! Here we go, hopefully to reverse the travesty of the result at Molineux

Got a good feeling about today's game!!!

First corner to Spurs and the first foul on Adama

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 14:07
Neves lucky to get away without a yellow card after pulling back Moura.

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 14:11
Adama steals the ball and breaks forward but a weak shot is wide. Loris not in goal for a Spurs today

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 14:16
Good break by Adama but his cross to Jota just too long. Spurs give ball away & Jota's sjhot goes for a corner. Spurs break and Bergwijn upon hand to score after Rui can only parry Dele's shot

Struggling to have an impact so far although their goal came against the run of play

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 14:24
Nothing is running for Raul yet!,

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 14:25
Good cross by Adama but shot from Jota high

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 14:32
Great play down left wing by Vinagre and Doc is there to convert at will
Spurs 1 Wolves 1
Crappy stream so far!!

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 14:37
Wolves are much more effective & threatening now

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 14:42
Jota fortunate to get a corner after overrunning the ball. Comes to nothing

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 14:45
Steady build up by Wolves - Adama takes on Dier & earns a corner. Saiss heads wide from it

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 14:49
Frenetic play in our area - great block by Boly & Rui takes an overhead kick by Dele. Spurs break again, Aurier gets it onto his left foot just inside the are and sends it into the far corner - Rui no chance
Spurs 2 Wolves 1

One added minute played and half time whistle goes.
This is a good competition with good play by both sides. Wolves have created several chances but lacked cutting edge at times. Spurs always look dangerous and some last ditch defending had been needed to keep them out. Auriers's goal was opportunistic and unpredictable. We now need to do to them what they did to us at Molineux!!

Having a mare following this match.
Essentially two overlaps in our left back position and Spurs score twice.
We’re not out of it by any means but not a classic performance so far

Unlucky to go in a goal down. I think that we have had the better of the game so far and both Spurs goals had an element of good fortune.
Traore doesn’t seem to be fully on his game at present so I hope that he steps it up in the second half or bring Podence on.
It’s a game of two halves so not over yet.

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 15:08
I think Raul has struggled to have an impact so far & hope he can now. Adama gets possession in their box but poor pass breaks it down. Free kick to us outside their area put in by Joao & headed just over by Jota

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 15:15
Another scramble in our area. Dele goes close

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 15:17
Neves to Doc & his shot parried by Gazzaniga but Jota is the root convert
Spurs 2 Wolves 2

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 15:19
Lo Celso brings down Adama to stop him and gets first yellow card of the match

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 15:25
Scramble in the Spurs area for a change. Now a corner to them is cleared but Rui in control

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 15:26
Adama breaks and opts to shoot which is totally wrong decision & well wide

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 15:33
Adama gets his left arm pulled by Tanganga and goes off clutching his shoulder again. Podence will probably appear soon.
Jota sets up Raul and he takes it!!!!
Spurs 2 Wolves 3

Donk comes on to replaceDiogo who has played very well

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 15:42
Wolves are very well organised and coping well with Spurs' threat at present. Atwell gives Saiss a taking to instead of a card after fouling Aurier, who has now been subbed.

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 15:46
Bit of a harsh yellow card for Ben Davies after he tackles Doc. Five minutes plus AT to go

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 15:51
Fantastic play between Neto & Raul & Raul's shot goes over th bar. One minute plus AT. Four added minutes to play

Cheshire wolf
01/03/2020 15:52
Podence replaces Raulfor last 2 minutes

All over and a fantastic hard earned win at Spurs. Great game to watch and we thoroughly deserved our points playing well in all areas. Watch out for the winning goal in particular. Depends now how United have done as to how far we go up the League

Up to 6th place but on same points as Utd. Great day!!

Marvellous win. A great match to watch.
Only slight negatives were that Traore and Boly seemed off their game a little and Moutinho played some uncharacteristic loose balls. On the other side of the coin, Coady was m.o.m for me, Saiss was pretty solid, Doherty and Jota did well.
The character to come from a goal behind twice away from home against a good team is encouraging and a fantastic third goal.
Three points off fourth now and, this will probably come back to kick me in the sack, but four winnable matches coming up.

All I need now is for The Paddy Pie to win the 4.20 at Sedgefield and it's been a good day.

Well, what an outstanding result. I never felt (from what I was actually able to see ) we were at our best. Andy, you are spot on about our sloppiness at times, however a great overall team effort. A really enjoyable and nervy match to follow. Never felt it was over until the final whistle, unlike my Spuds pal who was bemoaning they would never score. The third goal was so good. The Jota run and pass, the Jimenez jink inside and tremendous finish! Wow.
Once again we fall behind, twice today, but continue to have the guts and character to come back ....... typifying this season.
6th it is .... on goal difference, 4th place within 3 points. Who would have thought it. 42 from 28, I think we can say we won’t go down!!! 😂👍🐺
UTW!

It's amazing how you see the match differently, depending which side you are following. There's your mate thinking Spurs would never score (presumably he meant a third) whereas at half-time, after conceding just before, I was thinking we had blown it. I should know by now to never give up on this team, unlike The Paddy Pie who ran like a hairy goat.

Thought I’d share the following from the BBC Wolves report, all good, some you may know!👍

Wolves have won 35 points from losing positions in the Premier League since the start of last season, at least six more than any other side during this period.

Wolves have both scored and conceded in 20 different Premier League games this season (W6 D9 L5), a competition high.

Since the start of last season, Matt Doherty has netted eight Premier League goals for Wolves, the joint most of all defenders in the competition alongside Liverpool skipper Virgil Van Dijk.

Raul Jimenez's 13 Premier League goals this season have been worth 16 points to Wolves, the joint most alongside Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Yep, no chance of 3rd was his thinking. I, on the other hand, was a cat on a hot tin roof for the last 15 minutes. I did warn him however that Ali might rue his missed header to make it 3-1. It was comforting to be correct.

Difficult to deny that this team has tremendous character, and will never accept defeat, no prima donnas, no passengers, just a team full of belief, willing to work hard for each other and go for the full 90 minutes, fitness levels always seem so much better than the oppositions so hats off to the backroom staff for doing what seems to be a stellar job.

He's a pillock. This is the bloke who said after the way they treated Traore in the match at Molineux that systematic fouling was an acceptable tactic.

Sorry to be late to the party - only managed to get the score ten minutes from the end , but came on to praise the team. Don't know how they played, will watch on MOTD, but so impressed with coming from behind twice and then to go on and score the winner! UTW!
