Match Thread: Wolves vs Slovan Bratislava (Europa League)
The Home Leg
By Wolves
November 7 2019
Wolves welcome Slovan Bratislava to Molineux tonight, hoping for another three points to keep up their pressure on FC Braga at the top of Group K and to achieve a place in the next round of the competition
Nuno Espirito Santo and his squad will be hoping that the Molineux crowd will weigh heavily in helping the team to another win this evening. However he is likely to be without three regular players who are all injured: Willy Boly is on the long term list following ankle surgery, whilst Ryan Bennet (groin) and Matt Doherety (knee) are also struggling to shake off their injuries. Morgan Gibbs-White has also apparently been missing recently due to back pain.
The game which kicks off at 20:00 hrs is being screened on the BT Sports/ESPN channel.
This board will hopefully carry a broad commentary to keep members informed of progress. Board members are encouraged to post their observations for the benefit of those unable to watch the game.
10 of the 11 were involved on the pitch on Saturday, so a strong line up with the ability of putting 5 points between us and Bratislava with 2 matches to go.
Makes the selection for the Villa just as interesting
I'm surprised to see the Doc in there Ivy as I was reading this week that his knee injury is proving hard to rectify, but I'm also pleased he is in there! I think Jota must have hurt himself Saturday to not be featuring in tonight's squad at all. I will keep my fingers crossed as I'm out & unable to watch the game this evening.
Really good first half and the team looks up for the challenge.
Adama seems to have taken a knock so am hoping that he reappears for the second half as he is causing them all sorts of problems. Dendoncker covering a lot of ground not letting any of the opposition settle for a minute.
Keep up this performance in the second half and we should get the win.
4 big saves now, from this keeper, unfortunately. Having said that we’ve had many great chances with approach play which have broken down with a less than telling cross or not enough bodies in the box. And the penalty of course.
62 minutes gone, Wolves dominant. Just need a goal
Temperature at Molineux rising following 2 great shots from Neves but no breakthrough. Jiminez goes for a bicycle kick and cracks their lad square in the face. He gets a yellow. Play has stopped, plenty of medical attention.
That’s it. 13 extra minutes played and FT. We need 1 more point to qualify - to be sure. In that context an excellent win, totally dominated the match, the only criticism is we really ought to have been 4 or 5 nil on play and chances. Their keeper played well however.
A sickening head injury to their lad - hope he’s okay.
I saw bits of the game in the pub whilst I was presenting my Music Quiz, Really disappointing to see Neves' penalty saved and perhaps surprised that Raul didn't take it anyway. A well taken goal from Raul and some goods work from Adama noted.
Guess who forgot to make his prediction until it was too late!!!
Great result , absolutely deserved . Traore made the cross that won the game so Nuno has really won big time with his development and perseverance here.
Can’t wait for the Villa game
Excellent result, we're really grinding out results in this competition. Their keeper was superb. Cutrone's energy and passion is infectious, I really hope he settles down soon and shows us what a cracking player he is. And for those wondering, Jota was suspended last night due to the red card he got in Bratislava.
Went to the match last night. Even at 0-0 it was a good game. The win was totally deserved. Dendoncker looked good in defence and Kilman also, especially as the match went on. To me Neves looks better in the 3-4-3 that we played last night than 3-5-2.
Traore put in a good cross for the goal but too many of his crosses are either too high or over hit. Nobody can do anything with crosses like that. He's improved hand over fist from last season and I hope he continues to and with his pace he's exciting to watch but his crosses need improving.
Slovan's supporters may be racist and everyting else but they gave their team better support than our fans did. They never stopped.
A good result though and, although nothing can be taken for granted, we are looking good for the next stage.
