The Emirates challenge

By Wolves
November 2 2019

Wolves head to London today for their third away game in seven days, where they wiull face Arsenal at the Emirates stadium. They will be hoping for at least the same outcome as last season when they secured an unexpected 1 - 1 draw.

Nuno Espitrito Santo knows that he has a weakened squad as he heads into this game, as he will be without the injured Willy Boly (ankle), Ryan Bennett (groin) and Morgan Gibbs-White (back pain). However he remains upbeat that he has replacements within his squad capable of stepping up to the mark. Perhaps Leander Dendoncker will start at right centre back today as he filled that spot in the second half at Newcastle quite successfully, with Matt Doherty replacing him in midfield. Romain Saiss covered left center back last week and is likely to retain that position.

Meanwhile Arsenal have their own issues having already stated that captain Granit Xhaka will not be in their squad following his fall-out with the home fans last week, and they had a difficult game at Anfield midweek

This board will hopefully carry a commentary to keep fans abreast of the game, whilst members are encouraged to post their own observations for the benefit of those unable to view the game.

Wolves line up this afternoon pretty much as expected:

Arsenal are a fairly rancid outfit and wouldn't take a draw pre kickoff regardless of the result

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 15:05
Bright start from Wolves as Jota puts the first shot over the bar. Still keeping up the pressure

I watched the B'mouth v Man U game and had a BT commentary. For this game I've got the Korean equivalent!!!

Good break by Jonny & Joat who is brought down just outside their area. Step up Joao but taken easily by Leno

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 15:11
Raul earns Wolves second corner already, passed back to Adam but he floats it in too high

Neves shot from just outside are just too high. Referee Michael Oliver fails to give Luiz a yellow card for blatantly pulling Raul back

Shot from PEA (Aubamayang ) well taken by Rui

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 15:23
PEA slots the ball in to our Baotou corner after a cross by Luiz & pass on from Lacazette
A'nal 1 Wolves 0

Arsenal score from build up play after a corner given to them that clearly never touched Coady and should have been a goal kick

After a bright attacking start from a Wolves Arsenal score first 1-0

Great run inside by Adama to feed Jota but he just can't connect. Then we nearly gift A'nal a goal at the other end

chicagowolf
02/11/2019 15:29
Yet another Neves long one goes high. Time for a goal, or a rethink

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 15:29
Another attempt by Neves just too high

chicagowolf
02/11/2019 15:30
Dangerous moments as Arsenal getting on top.

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 15:35
Rui down sharply to keep a Lacazette shot out. Good play by Jonny to deny them a corner

January window cannot come soon enough

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 15:43
Good period of possession by Wolves after struggling to get a foot on the ball. Arsenal having most of the possession and look slick

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 15:44
Great play by Jota to feed Doc and his shot brings a great point blank save from Leno

chicagowolf
02/11/2019 15:45
Nice attack. Couple of real Doherty moments. Goal saved

chicagowolf
02/11/2019 15:47
We had a few corners but missing Boly

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 15:47
Joao flattens Luiz with a shot. Corner to Wolves cleared. One added minute at the end of first half

chicagowolf
02/11/2019 15:49
Some strange half time scores!! Let’s see what magic Nuno can inspire

Lupy
02/11/2019 16:03
The best attacking 45 minutes that I have seen this season from Wolves.
Keep this up and we could get a good result

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 16:05
Neat play in the box by Jota but he fires wide for last play of the half. Wolves have played well and gone close on a couple of occasions, but Aubamayang took his chance cooly when it came. He and Lacazette can be very classy with the ball, but they have had to be very alert to stop us when we care in possession. Adama has shown some good flashes down the wing and coming inside, and Raul & Jota have linked up well. Neves has had two good attempts but too high on both of them.

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 16:06
Here we go again with no changes to either side. Adama earns us a corner

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 16:08
Good save by Leno to deny Neves for a corner. Soft header from Raul

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 16:11
Another corner to Wolves. And another!! Easily cleared by Arsenal and they break but Lacazette skies his attempt

chicagowolf
02/11/2019 16:12
We have been all over them at the restart. We need a moment of magic

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 16:14
Raul's arm bushes the side of Sokratis' face as they jump together and he goes down like a sack of $hit!! What is the matter with these players??

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 16:18
Doc down hurt after a good tackle. Lacazette replaced by Martinelli

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 16:21
Doc OK - think he hurt his knee going down. Coady concedes a corner to stop an attack.

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 16:24
Corner passed to Neves and again his shot from edge of the area is blocked

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 16:28
Saiss brings down Martinelli in full flight & getsa deserbpved yellow card. Doc concedes a corner from free kick, which ends up going back to their keeper! Great chance for Adama but his pass to Doc is overhit for a goal kick!!

chicagowolf
02/11/2019 16:28
Doherty looks done for the day. Kilman?

chicagowolf
02/11/2019 16:28
Vinagre

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 16:29
Vinagre replaces the Doc who is limping. Jonny will probably come to right side. Raul gets a shot away but easy for Leno

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 16:31
Arsenal wonder kid Sako replaces Torreira

Billericay Wolf
02/11/2019 16:34
Thank heavens that Vallejo isn't on the bench. Boly with one ankle would have been better.

At last 1-1

chicagowolf
02/11/2019 16:34
Raul yes 1-1

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 16:35
Raul makes it 1 - 1

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 16:36
Throw in from Jonny to Joao, and his cross is inch perfect for Raul to head in

chicagowolf
02/11/2019 16:39
Nobody settling for draw. Should a great last ten minutes

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 16:40
A good game to win now

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 16:43
Frantic stuff at the back then we break and Jota earns a corner. He has played much better today than last Sunday

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 16:46
Lost my stream and having to listen via OS

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 16:49
Good chance for Jota - with only goalie to beat he loses ball

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 16:50
Four added minutes to play

chicagowolf
02/11/2019 16:53
1-1 FT. Quite a game. Very entertaining

02/11/2019 16:55
Not bad - lost my stream in the last 10 which always seems to happen and ruins the match

Billericay Wolf
02/11/2019 16:55
Good result I suppose, but would have been so sweet to have got the winner.
Well played lads.

Cheshire wolf
02/11/2019 16:55
All over and Wolves leave with a well deserved and hard earned point. We played very well and did well to contain their dangerous attack. Arsenal fans clearly disappointed as they clearly thought they should have won - tough!!
Arsenal 1 Wolves 1

chicagowolf
02/11/2019 16:55
We were attacking strongly at the end. And Liverpool just stuck in the winner v Villa. Ah bliss

wolverina
02/11/2019 17:01
Raul comes through again - good point away!

oldngold
02/11/2019 17:46
Good point away with good amount of possession and could well have won the game.

25 shots and 1 headed goal is a telling stat. We have to start finding the net. The team can create chances but seem unable to take them.

Next game should be a very tasty affair.

I was there. Aside from the Manchester City match, got to be one of our best performances of the season. We got off to a great start, high tempo and kept it going for much of the match. Arsenal caused us problems from time to time, however it would have been a travesty if we hadn’t scored the equaliser. A great team effort, really enjoyable, well played lads.

UTW!
