Match Thread: Europa League Slovan Bratislava vs Wolves
Bratislava Stadium
By Wolves
October 24 2019
Wolves travel to Slovakia tonight to face the team currently at the top of their Europa League table. Slovan Bratislava have beaten Besiktas and come from behind to grab a draw at Braga and sit one point above Wolves.
The Europa League challenge continuesd for Wolves tonight in somewhat controversial circumstances Slovan were ordered to play this game behind closed doors, but they have exercised an option to invite 21,00 children to fill their terraces, whilst Wolves are only allowed to have 200 supporters in the ground.
Ryan Bennett will not travel with the squad, but Nuno Espirito Santo has said he will take some of the Under 23 squad in case they are needed.
Board members are encouraged to post their obeservations of the game for the benefit of others unable to follow it.
Please also remember that the game kicks off at the strange time of 17:55
Slovan's top scorer picks up a good pass, beats Coady and puts it in the corner. Not sure if it was deflected past Rui as he made no real effort to stop it
Slovan 1 Wolves 0
There's so much wrong with this game I dont know where to begin- firstly a so called ban on fans for racism results in a near capacity crowd. Secondly the wolves green kit means the players are effectively camouflaged so apart from viewing being tedious it means wolves players are probably struggling to pick each other out. Throw in the bizarre team selection leaving out Traore and starting with Cutrone who lets be honest looks a complete donkey and has the goal scoring threat of a ferret armed with a feather duster and it doesn't bode well.
And with Angry's thoughts taken onboard I would also suggest this Slovan team will not be easy to beat. They are quick and their passing is largely accurate. Our passing is letting us down at times and we are yet to mount a serious threat on their goal.
One of their players has had several pops at Saiss and this time he gets a yellow card. One added minute to play. MGW puts a long distance shot over the bar.
Half time
Slovan 1 Wolves 0
It would be interesting to know just how much input Nuno has had in our summer signings as 25 million is a substantial amount of money for a player that cant hit a barn door. You don't need 100 million to sign a messi type of player for a team playing in the Europa league but someone with a keen eye for some talent wouldnt go amiss. I also don't understand the situation with Jimenez, his arm is clearly bothering him so if he needs surgery why doesnt he just get it.. broken bones heal on their own unless they are very serious so why is he still wearing a protective cast after all this time. I'd take them both off and stick Traore and jota upfront.
1-2 to wolves , that should silence the little @#$%& in the crowd for a bit.. the screeching of their voices has meant Ive had the game on mute since the 20th min
No coincidence since Cutrone and MGW went off the game has turned in our favour - hopefully we can bring a semi decent striker in maybe in January and ship MGW out to the lower leagues where he belongs.
That's it Wolves win 2 - 1 in a hard fought game but they played much better in the second half and deserved it. A great run of results away from home.
Never a dull moment in that game but we were way better in the second half, a lot of it due to Traore. Nobody really surprised. Jota got his cameo; not sure how many minutes he was on. Does he now miss the Newcastle game or the next Europa tie?
Great result
Great result. Thought Kilman did ok. Nothing flashy but he looks a better bet than Vallejo.
I never thought I would say this, and I'm ready for the flack, but right now, maybe only for the time being, I would play Saiss instead of Neves. Saiss has done well when I've seen him play whereas Neves hasn't been consistant so far this season.
Brainless from Jota, especially as he is just getting back to fitness and surely there is a place for him in the attack.
Overall a good performance though, especially second half, and in a good position now.
Jota lost his head but it was easy to see why he was riled up given he was essentially assaulted minutes earlier being pushed away from the ball with no reprisal from the referee. Neves relies too heavily on his long shots instead of playing killer passes- if you hit 100 shots per season by the laws of averages at least half a dozen will go in. I wish he would cut down the continual blasting of the ball from 35 years out like we're a lower league team buying the metaphorical lottery ticket to get a goal.
A good result against a limited team, they may be " champions " but in a cr*ap league with results in the Europa league in the last 3 seasons including defeats to the renowned Jelgada , Lyngby , PAOK and the mighty Balzan so it's not really a great shock we beat them.
