The Trinidad and Tobago international Kenwyne Jones has completed a move to Stoke City.
The 25-year-old has rejoined the Potters, where he played 13 times during a loan spell from former club Southampton in 2005, for £8m - a record sale for the Black Cats.
Jones travelled down to Stoke for talks this morning and passed a medical before signing a four-year contract.
Jones made 101 appearances in all competitions for Sunderland after arriving in August 2007, scoring 28 goals.
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has suggested that there may have been a rift between himself and Kenwyne.
"There has always been a frustration with me, and I think with supporters who have watched Kenwyne, that you see an abundance of talent but it has not come out often enough for us for whatever reason."
"In management you get paid to make some important decisions sometimes. Stoke have been badgering me for a year.
"Everyone knows they love a big, traditional centre-forward and he might go and suit them.
"Towards the end with Kenwyne, things were not working out so I have accepted Stoke's offer."
Personally I think this is a big mistake and will leave us very weak offensively going into the new season, but we're just going to have to trust Bruce to bring in an adequate replacement for Jones, who, on his day is unplayable - it's just a shame that day didn't come round often enough.
