Sunderland have sold Club Captain Lorik Cana to Galatasaray in a move that has shocked most Sunderland fans. Cana joined Sunderland in last summer and proved to be popular on Wearside.
I'm sure I'm not the only person that thought: "He's done what?", when hearing that Steve Bruce had sold Cana, whom he brought to Sunderland a year ago on a long term contract.
However it looks as though Bruce is looking to field a more attacking midfield in the upcoming season and makes more sense of the signing of Cristian Riveros.
Cana had an impressive first 10 or so games last season but tailed away before picking up an injury and ultimately losing his place to David Meyler.
Rumours around Sunderland are saying that Cana has a degenerative knee problem which is why Bruce looked to cash in but I guess that's something we'll never know.
Cana brought a lot to the team, leadership, passion and a lot of grit but at times he looked a liability - always picking up yellows (should've had more reds) as well as always looking like conceding free kicks in dangerous areas.
Lee Cattermole,is a similar player to Cana, but is younger and has a better range of passing so we shouldn't really miss the Albanian (injuries permitting) and will hopefully play more attacking football due to not playing with two defensive midfielders.
