Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has said that he wants four quality strikers at the club for the upcoming campaign. This would include Kenwyne Jones, Frazier Campbell and potential signing Peter Crouch who arrived in Sunderland this morning for talks with the black cats boss.

The other striker could be David Healy who is already at the club, or rumour has it that it could be Darren Bent or even Robbie Keane or recently linked to Sunderland Craig Bellamy.

Bruce said: "Peter is a player I’ve admired for a long time.. I hope to speak to him in the next few days.

"The situation has been on-going for a few weeks. I hope we can put something together because he would be a player who would signal our intentions.

"I’m looking at having four strikers on board. You can’t just go with two main strikers.

"I have six targets which I gave the chairman a few weeks back and I’ve not wavered from those at all."

Sunderland have also made a bid for Wigan 'hard man' Lee Cattermole.

He said: "The bid was knocked back but when (chairman) Niall Quinn comes back in two days we’ll see if we can make it happen. I’ve not given up.

"We all know money talks and I’ve made it obvious with the bid for Lee that he’s a player I like."
