City return for Anton

Sunderland central defender Anton Ferdinand hopes to make his return from a hamstring injury, which has kept him out of action for the last two games, against Manchester City this weekend. Black Cats Boss Ricky Sbragia is keeping his fingers crossed that Ferdinand will be available for the game at Eastlands after he returned to training today.

The ex-West Ham player was in a rich vein of form when he sustained the injury before the Tottenham game 10 days ago.

Ferdinand said: "The injury is a lot better. I will test it in training and see if I am ready for the game.

"I felt it in training the day before the Tottenham game. I stretched to block a shot and it happened. Luckily it wasn't bad and I should be back soon."

Meanwhile, Tal Ben-Haim is unavailable on Sunday because he is on loan at Sunderland from Manchester City.
