Work has today commenced on the redevelopment of Compton Street which, when complete, will return Saltergate to a 4 sided stadium and hopefully add to the match day atmosphere. The commencement of building had to be delayed until "authority to proceed" had been received from the Football Foundation; that authority only arrived late on Friday and over-the-weekend meetings has ensured that the contractors began work almost immediately.

The Football Club still have to wait until the end of July for the Foundation's next meeting. Then and only then will the Spireites know how of a grant will be available go to towards the Compton redevelopment.

Unfortunately the work will not be complete in time for the John Duncan testimonial but a target completion date of 16 August has been set making the second home League game of the season the earliest opening day for the new all-seater development.
