Whitby raised the cash for a new stand after being very successful in the Football Association Cup, after seeing off Ramsbottom United, Spennymoor United, Scarborough and Yorkshire rivals Stocksbridge Park Steels they faced Division 3 Champions Plymouth Arygle at home, they drew 1-1 in a thrilling game and forcing a game at Home Park. Although the North Yorkshire side lost 3-2 in the replay they still had something to be proud of.

In all the cup glory Whitby Town FC won £100,000 which does not include gate receipts.
