The Challenge Is Clear

Today at a busier-than-usual Bayview Stadium in Methil the main focus will quite rightly be on champions East Fife but it’s East Stirlingshire who provide the sub-text.

Is this the last-ever Scottish League/SPFL fixture for the Shire? Have programme dealers across the land ordered additional copies of today’s match programme to sell under their “last ever” category?

East Stirlingshire’s fate won’t be decided today, and whilst there are plenty of people hoping that the Shire can survive the pyramid play-offs to fight another day, there seem to be just as many who expect Shire to feature again and again in this particular play-off until what they regard as unavoidable relegation to the Lowland League occurs.

The challenge for everyone at the Shire couldn’t be clearer.
