Town boss Paul Jewell appears to have been given more time to turn things around at Portman Road despite this weekend questioning if he was the right man to take the club forward.

A very poor run of results from Town have seen them slide to 23rd in the Championship and are now without a win in ten, which led to boss Jewell this weekend openly question if he was the right man to leave the club forward, stating he would think on his decision over the weekend.

Jewell said after this weekend's 2-1 defeat against Hull City: “I want to do what’s right for this club. I don’t want to quit, but at the same time I have to realise what’s the best thing for Ipswich – not just Ipswich, but me as well. I have a lot of thinking to over the weekend - we’ll see where that takes us.

“If I decide when I speak to Marcus and one or two other people that are close to me and I feel that the best thing for Ipswich is not to be here, then I’ll do that. I hope the answers I come up with are positive answers, but I’ve got to be honest with myself and honest with the people close to me.”



It appears ultimately that Jewell feels he still has the backing of the Town board and in particular owner Marcus Evans and will stay on at the club for the time being at least. Jewell was spotted at this morning's 1-0 Under 21 side win against QPR in which Nathan Ellington scored from the spot giving further weight to the fact his departure is not set to be revealed. 

Next up for Town is Tuesday night's clash against Derby County in the Championship at Portman Road. Ironically Jewell's last game in charge of The Rams was a 1-0 defeat at home to Town. Could the roles be reversed this time and Jewell bow out in similar circumstances? Only time will tell.
