Versatile defender Mat Mitchel-King to continue to cover for the injured Matt Tootle...

Crewe boss Dario Gradi has stated that former Histon utility man Mat Mitchell-King will continue at right back for the Railwaymens trip to Stevenage tomorrow.

Mitchel-King was brought to Gresty Road as a holding midfield player by former boss Gudjon Thordason but has spent the majority of his time at Centre Back. However, Gradi has confidence in the former captain to fill in whilst Matt Tootle recovers from an injury sustained in the League Cup against Derby County. He told the clubs official website “Mat has played in a few positions in his career and I am sure he will improve because of the experience. He won’t be the type of full-back that rampages forward (like Tootle) but he is a good footballer and that allows him to play in defence or in midfield if necessary.

Dario also believes having Mitchel-King in the first eleven will bring some much needed experience to the young side “Mat is a great bloke and he certainly didn’t let us down against Derby County or Lincoln City. He is another ma amongst the boys there and he won’t be fazed.

It was thought that Gradi was interested in bringing former loanee Stephen Wright back to the club however this deal now appears to be dead.
