After a series of call offs from the Northern Ireland squad to face Scotland, Well skipper Stephen Craigan will captain his country in his 50th Cap as a Well player.

Captain Aaron Hughes is out along with Chris Brunt, Kyle Lafferty, Maik Taylor, Craig Cathcart and Sammy Clingan and Jonny Gorman.

This has allowed manager Nigel Worthington to hand the armband to the Well skipper for his 50^th Cap as a Well player, his 53^rd overall after winning three while at Partick Thistle.

Craggs is the first ever Motherwell player to reach 50 caps while at Motherwell but this seems to constantly pass under the radar and the skipper doesn’t get the recognition he deserves at the club.

The skipper doesn’t let that bother him as he told me recently, “Reaching 50 as a Motherwell player is beyond anything I thought I would ever get to in my career. I feel a lot of satisfaction in the achievement because I feel I have really earned them and my dedication has paid off.

“It’s not been easy and at times it has been frustrating but in the end it has all been worth it.

“Eventually when I sit down and look back I’ll be proud and have memories that will live with me forever.”

Hopefully we will see the club recognise this achievement in some way, and the fans will show their appreciation in the coming weeks.
