Well boss at draw.

Motherwell were drawn in an either/or tie when the fifth round draw for the Scottish Cup was made today.

Motherwell have been drawn to play either Stenhousemuir, Threave Rovers or Stranraer in the Scottish Cup fifth round when the draw was made this afternoon at Hampden.

Stenhousemuir and Threave have yet to play the replay of their Third Round tie, after a 2-2 draw in the first game, with a last minute goal from Williams securing the replay for Stenny.

They have already had 12 attempts at playing the second game without success, thanks to the poor weather recently. The next attempt has yet to be re-arranged, and Motherwell fans will surely take more of an interest in this tie when it does go ahead.

We could, of course, be in for a long wait if the weather doesn’t change, and could see the tie slip beyond the planned date of 5th or 6th Sept.

This will be the seventh Scottish Cup tie between Motherwell and Stenhousemuir, with Well winning four and drawing two of the previous six. The last time the two met it took two games to resolve the tie back in 1981, the first game was a 1-1 draw at Ochilview, before Well won 2-1 at Fir Park in the replay. Scorers for Well on the night were Steve McLelland and John Gahagan.

Not surprisingly Motherwell have never played Threave in a competitive match in their history.

Motherwell last played Stranraer in 2003 in a James McFadden inspired 4-0 win at Stair Park. The clubs have only ever met five times and we currently have a 100% record against them! Motherwell made the semi final that year, losing 3-4 to Rangers.
