Motherwell's unbeaten run came crashing to a halt with a 3-0 defeat to ten man Dundee Utd on Saturday.
After the opening fifteen minutes there looked to be only one side up for this game with Motherwell pulling United all over the place and Murphy unlucky on a couple of occassions.
Then came the first turning point when Paul Dixon was sent off for a horror tackle on Jim O'Brien in 16 minutes, followed by a dubious looking offside to disallow John Sutton's deflected strike in 33 minutes.
From then on it was all United as they rolled up their sleeves and gave us a bit of hiding no matter how you try to dress things up!
The first came in 38 minutes when Goodwillie scored from close range, and then a disaster for John Ruddy allowing Bauben to score after keeper had failed to deal with a pass back.
Motherwell played the second half in front of United and struggled to find any tempo to get behind the United defence and always looked vulnerable on the counter attack.
This proved to be the case on 72 minutes when Craig Conway burst through the Well defence before shooting to leave Ruddy helpless.
Despite some late goalmouth activity whe McGlinchey and Coke had been introduced we never looked like causing the home rear guard any issues.
We need to hope now that fifth can provide a European place, and take the first step to this by beating Falkirk next week at Fir Park
