Motherwell scraped through to the Quarter Final of the League Cup with an extra time win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
A jaded looking Motherwell side edged through to the Quarter Finals of the League Cup over a hard working Inverness side.
Inverness were the livelier side in the opening stages, with former Well man Richie Foran causing problems for Suanders and Reynolds as he acted as a one man wrecking crew.
But it was Motherwell who took the lead in just after the half hour mark when a great cross from Moutaouakil was met by the head of Robert McHugh to leave Ryan Esson with no chance.
We all hoped this would help settle the side and we could relax and see it through to the end. But an old failing came back to haunt us in the 2nd half when a Hayes free kick was headed past Ruddy by sub Barrowman.
The game was forced into extra time and once again we took the lead thanks to an own goal when a Hammell cross was deflected by Esson. But once again set piece defending let us down.
A Hayes corner was met by Munro at the far edge of the box and looped a header high over Ruddy. This looked as though it would force the game into penalty kicks.
That was until Ross Forbes struck with only a minute left, he picked the ball up at an acute angle and smashed a shot high past Esson at his near post.
As the saying goes it is only winning that matters in Cup football, and that was what last night was all about.
