Motherwell put in a lack lustre performance to lose to Falkirk in th first of the post split fixtures.

McGhee was forced to make a couple of changes to his side due to injury with Quinn, Craigan and O'Brien all out. This meant some of the "second tier" players were called upon, and sadly all failed.

Keith Lasley was played at right back and couldn't cope with the ageing Neil McCann, Steven McGarry was wide on the right and looked out of shape as he struggled to get in touch with the game. Also coming in was Marc Fitzpatrick who did his normal efficient job, but that is probably not good enough.

Brian McLean was also given a run at centre half and in all honestly was appalling, his positional sense was awful and his distribution even worse.

The goals were cheap with McCann given all the time in the world to find space in the box to set up Finnigan, and the second was a free header for Scobbie from a corner.

Even when we pulled one back from Clarkson's corner and Falkirk went down to 10 men there was still little reaction and Falkirk always looked comfortable on their lead.

It was also disconcerting to hear what the manager said after the game, "We had three players out and we had to adjust. We were on the back foot because of that.

"It was an end-of-season game for us and we struggled to get to grips with that.

"But it's up to me to motivate the players in the remaining weeks to ensure they are up for the matches left."

He has his work cut out if he wants to make sure we finish 7th and take whatever financial reward comes with that.
