top six - simple says McGhee

After yesterday's defeat to Rangers Motherwell boss Mark McGhee reckons top six qualification could be simple depending how other results go.  McGhee was understandably disappointed with our start yesterday as he had tried to drum into the players the way Rangers would start, "I saw Rangers do the same to St. Mirren the other night, and all I have talked about all week is the start Rangers would likely to make, regardless of any problems they have. We knew they had enough players out there, at least for some period of the game, to cause us problems.

"I wasn't surprised the way they started but I was disappointed with the way we conceded two goals during that period, that killed us and we rallied but it was the same as St. Mirren they rallied in the second half and were brilliant but they got beat, and when the got beat was in the first half hour and that was the same with us."

He then went on to give his verdict on our top six chances with only one game left, "If Hibs get beat on Monday night and Rangers beat them we need only a point against St. Mirren and it'll be easy, if Hibs win on Monday night and beat Rangers we have no chance. We have one game left to get more points and goals than Hibs."

While I admire teh Manager's optimism I am not so sure we will make it as I can't see Hibs failing to take any points from St. Mirren on Monday. We are being left to suffer for our poor form in the lead up to Christmas when there was a bit of an injury crisis at the club.

Given where we were then to be relatively safe going into the split isn't really such a bad thing although it is disappointing after the progress of last season.
