Well slump at Ibrox again

Well at Ibrox

Motherwell's twelve year wait for a win at Ibrox was ended within ten minutes this afternoon, when poor defending had Well two down in that spell.

Expectations were high as Well travelled to Ibrox against "troubled" Rangers this afternoon but their hopes were dashed after only ten minutes.

They defended a cross from Steven Smith in the third minute allowing Velicka to bundle home from close ranger and then allowed Kris Boyd far too much space to volley home from 30 yards out.

Motherwell were a shambles in the opening twenty minutes and looked a shadow of the team who had only lost once in 2009. But they plugged away and a spectacular goal from Sutton before half time sent a wave of anxiety around the Ibrox stands.

This was calmed when the ref gave one of those decisions the Old Firm always seem to get when Mendes tumbled rather easily under a challenge from McLean. Boyd made no mistake from the spot to put Rangers two ahead again.

It was the wrong time to put in one of our worst performances of 2009 and we are now relying on Hibs crumbling in the next two games to have a chance of making the top six never mind a European place.
