Mark McGhee was delighted with the performances of the returning Brian McLean and Cillian Sheridan who grabbed his first goal in Claret and Amber On McLean the gaffer said, "Brian McLean got a round of applause in the dressing room because it was his first game back after being out with a horrendous injury. He deserves all the credit and it was brilliant for him to be part of this victory.

"Our physio, John Porteous, deserves a special mention because he's got Brian back to this stage as quickly as he has done."

McLean put in a steady performance at right back and played a big part in cutting out the danger we know former Well man Richie Foran can cause cutting in from the left hand side.

His return is timely and adds depth to the squad and could possibly mean the back four may no longer pick itself as it has in recent weeks.

Up front Cillian Sheridan grabbed his first goal for the club since joining on loan from Celtic and the boss said, "It was a great goal. We are delighted with him because his all-round contribution has been superb.

"He played well and that goal was terrific. His work-rate was excellent, but you would expect that from a player from Celtic."

Former Well boss was also fulsome in his praise for his former side when he commented after the game, "Motherwell are the best team we have played so far, and that includes Celtic. They were immense because they keep the ball well and they hurt you. They made it very difficult for us."
