Motherwell's two one win over St. Mirren secured the first home three points of the season and set up a busy week nicely. The win comes ahead of another two home games, against Nancy in the UEFA Cup and the Falkirk in the SPL next Sunday - can we make it three wins in a week?

Motherwell had to shuffle the pack a bit with Sutton in for Porter who was suspended and McGarry and Fitzpatrick in for the injured Craigan and Hughes.

The re-shuffle saw Keith Lasley as captain and moved to right back, where he looked uncomfortable there all afternoon. In fact the Saints opener came from this area with Robb skinning Lasley before crossing for Mehmet to bend a shot past Smith.

Bob Malcolm rattled the Saints cross bar with a free kick just before the break, but the equaliser had to wait until just after the break.

Two minutes after the re-start a Hammell corner was headed past Howard by former Saint John Sutton. This seemed to give us the kick start we needed and we made it two half way through the half.

Murphy took a quick corner to Hammell and his cross was met by Malcolm who used his nether regions to bundle the ball over the line.

With twenty minutes left Saints were reduced to ten men when Miranda was sent off for an off the ball incident with Sutton spotted by the Linesman.

This was a great three points that showed how thin our squad is, with three out there were virtually no options on the bench. This is a problem McGhee has caused himself in three consecutive transfer windows.

Even the Slovakian centre back he signed is unlikely to play for us before his loan runs out due to an injury! Hopefully the Nigerian trialist currently at the club can help provide some depth.
