Barnsley visit Fleetwood in EFL Trophy

Barnsley will return to competitive action for the first time in two weeks, when they travel to Fleetwood Town for an EFL Trophy fixture on Tuesday night.

The 7pm kick-off will be the Reds second Trophy match, with a loss most likely ending their chances of progressing to the knockout stages.

Last time out, Barnsley lost to Leeds u21s 4-3 at Oakwell, which extended their winless run to five in all competitions.

However, the international break has allowed the Reds a mini reset to focus on issues, whilst loanee goalkeeper Cieran Slicker has returned to training and could be involved.

Luca Connell could also be involved midweek, after Barnsley’s appeal against his straight red card against Leicester was rejected, meaning the 25-year-old will return to league action against Reading in October.

As for opponents Fleetwood, they sit 18th in League Two and are managed by Matt Lawlor.

The Cod Army started the season impressively, going unbeaten in nine games in all competitions and advancing to the fourth round of the EFL Cup with a win over Sheffield United.

However, they have lost their last four games, including an EFL Trophy loss away at Oldham.

The last time the two sides met was in the EFL Cup last season, with Barnsley winning on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Oakwell.

You have to go back a year earlier than that for the last league meeting, with the Reds winning at Highbury with goals from Sam Cosgrove and Herbie Kane.

The two sides have faced off 13 times in total, with Barnsley winning eight and losing three.
