Barnsley currently sit 12th in League One, seven points above the bottom four and 13 points off sixth-place Stevenage. 

A win at Vale Park would be the first time Barnsley have won back-to-back league games since November. 

The Valiants currently sit bottom of the division on 34 points and are the league’s lowest scorers with 30 goals. 

They have the worst home record in League One with just four wins, however they are unbeaten in three at home conceding zero goals. 

Vale also reached the FA Cup quarter finals, after beating Premier League Sunderland 1-0 at home in early March.

The Valiants did not play Saturday so have had a full week to prepare for the game, and will play Peterborough just 48 hours after Tuesday night's game.

They are managed by Jon Brady who has been in charge since January 2026, after former Barnsley player Darren Moore was sacked. 

The two sides have already played twice this season, with Port Vale winning 2-0 at Oakwell in the league in September, and 5-0 at Vale Park in the EFL Trophy in December. 

Barnsley and Port Vale have faced off 119 times over the years, with The Reds winning 50 and losing 49.
