The Reds currently sit 13th in League One on 50 points, seven above the relegation zone and 11 below the top six. 

Barnsley haven’t been great on the road this season, having the 17th best away record in the division, however they have claimed four points from their last two away matches. 

Earlier in the week, the club issued a statement which stressed that chairman Neerav Parekh “remains fully financially committed” to the club. 

Head Coach Conor Hourihane addressed his post-match comments after the Doncaster defeat, in which he said: “Obviously knowing that the question was going to come up and having time to think about it, I think the main thing really is that there was a bit of emotion involved, obviously after a game. 

“Straight after a game, you are quite emotional because you've just got beaten. Obviously, you don't want that to happen. 

“But I think the biggest thing to take away from it, in terms of maybe a bit of clarity around it, is that look, no one's writing off next year. 

“That's probably the biggest message. I think we all want success right now and straight away. But I think, ultimately, people will have looked at my comments and the statement, and everyone will have taken their own opinion from it. 

“People will dress it up how they want to dress it up. But the biggest thing, from my point of view, with my words and what I said, is that it's full steam ahead from now, like always - business as usual - and no one's writing off the future, that's for sure.” 

The Reds will have had just under two weeks to prepare for the Burton fixture due to international call-ups, a rarity in what has been a tough fixture schedule over recent months. 

Patrick Kelly was an unused substitute for Northern Ireland as they lost 2-0 against Italy in their World Cup qualifier, however started and played 64 minutes in a friendly against Wales. 

Jonathan Bland was an unused subsitute for Wales U21 as they beat Belarus U21, then started and played 90 minutes as they lost 4-0 to Denmark U21. 

Owen Goodman didn’t play in any of Canda’s fixtures. 

In terms of injury news, Tawanda Chirewa returned to training after completing injury rehab with his parent club Wolves. 

Josh Earl is back on the grass and Hourihane confirmed he will be in contention for the Rotherham game. 

In terms of Burton, they sit 18th just three points above the relegation zone. 

Their home record ranks them 21st in the division, and they are coming into the game off the back of a 1-0 defeat at Blackpool, where they conceded a 91st minute goal. They beat Bradford 2-1 in their most recent home game.

They are managed by Gary Bowyer, who did a remarkable job in keeping the Brewers up last season, as they looked certain to get relegated when he arrived in December 2024. 

The Brewers have lots of former Reds including Brad Collins, Toby Sibbick, Jasper Moon, Jason Sraha, and Kyran Lofthouse. 

The two sides met on the opening day of the season, with Barnsley coming from behind to win 3-2, with a late David McGoldrick winner. 

Barnsley and Burton have faced each other 16 times, with the Reds winning eight and losing three.
