The fixture has been moved to 8pm for broadcast reasons, with the match looking like a potential relegation six-pointer a few weeks ago. 

The Reds currently sit 12th in League One, seven points off the play-offs and 11 above the bottom four. 

They could have cut the gap to the top six to five points on Saturday however squandered a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw at Mansfield. 

At Mansfield,David McGoldrick scored again to take his tally to 14 league goals, and Scott Banks scored in back-to-back games to add to his impressive tally of three goals and four assists in 11 matches. 

Barnsley have lost just one game in eight at Oakwell in 2026 which is miles better than last season's poor home form. 

Wigan sit 20th and are three points above the relegation zone.

Barnsley head coach Conor Hourihane said: “We fancy ourselves against anyone at home. 

“It’s a different team completely to Mansfield. Wigan have a fighting chance of staying up and had a very good result on Saturday. They will be in a good place. 

“We can go into two home games back-to-back in a decent place and we can go into the game with momentum. 

Wigan have Caylan Vickers, who spent the first half of the season on loan at Barnsley before returning to Brighton. He scored against Bradford on Saturday. 

The two clubs have met 22 times, and Barnsley have won six and lost seven. 

They visited Wigan on New Years Day and drew 1-1, thanks to an Adam Phillips goal with Luca Connell sent off late on. 

The Latics won 1-0 at Oakwell last season thanks to a Thelo Aasgaard goal.
