The Reds have collected seven points from their last three home games and have played some good attacking football whilst still leaking goals defensively. 

Barnsley where due to play at Stevenage on Tuesday but the match was called off just over an hour before kick-off due to a waterlogged pitch. 

This will add another fixture to Barnsley’s already packed schedule and anymore postponements would cause real issues. 

Head Coach Conor Hourihane also said that Charlie Lennon and Georgie Gent are in the mix for first team selection for the remainder of Barnsley’s season. 

Young winger Charlie Lennon is yet to play since signing from Middlesbrough. 

Left-back Georgie Gent has also barely featured since missing nine months with an Achilles injury. 

He played away at Peterborough in the FA Cup in December, putting in an impressive performance, before suffering another set-back and then coming on after 88 minutes at Liverpool in the FA Cup. 

Both played for the under 21s on Tuesday in a 4-2 victory over Fleetwood. 

Hourihane told Barnsley Chronicle: “They’re bang in the thoughts just like everyone else. Georgie needs to keep playing minutes to get himself in a good place, in a strong place, when needed or if called upon. Charlie Lennon’s obviously just through the door and is developing and getting familiar with the surroundings. 

“They’re both showing really good signs in training and will be available for squads moving forward, as they have been for the last few weeks.” 

Conor Hourihane has also allegedly been placed on a 4-man shortlist by Wigan as a potential successor to the recently sacked Ryan Lowe. 

The Reds head coach said: “I am very used to different scenarios, whether it is moves in my playing career or my players being linked with moves. 

“I just need to take care of the business in front of me. It’s early in my head coach career so to have my name involved is new. It’s nice to see, I suppose, because it means people like what we are doing but I am very focused on the job.” 

Asked if there had been any contact with himself or the club, he said: “No, it's just a name linked. It was some sort of shortlist. 

“Whoever has put it together knows a little bit more info than me but it’s nice to have your name out there. 

“If you are linked with something in the right way it means you are doing something right.” 

In terms of injury news, there have been no new problems and Tawanda Chirewa is still not expected to feature on Saturday. 

In terms of opponents Wimbledon, they currently sit 14th in League One and have won their last two league games away at Port Vale and at home to Reading. 

The Wombles started the season impressively but have won just three times in 16 league matches since mid-October. 

They finished fifth in League Two last season, boasting the league's best defence with just 35 goals conceded, and gained promotion after beating Walsall 1-0 in the play-off final. 

Wimbledon are managed by Johnnie Jackson who has been in charge since May 2022. 

The two sides faced off back in August with Wimbledon beating Barnsley at the Cherry Red Records Stadium 2-0. 

Barnsley have played AFC Wimbledon three times since the phoenix club was created in 2002, winning one, drawing one and losing one.
