Barnsley 0 0 Sunderland

The Super Reds maintained their 4 point cushion over third placed Sunderland thanks to this 0 – 0 draw at Oakwell.

Barnsley were the better of the two teams in a game largely affected by windy conditions. Thiam had the two best chances of the night and probably should have scored and sealed all three points for the reds.

Lindsay was outstanding from start to finish and rightly received the man of the match. He did need to be on his game however as Pinnock had an unusual off night and went to pieces for a while just after being booked.

Honourable mentions to Davies, Cavare, Pinillos, Woodrow and Thiam who also had good games. And Mowatt who was excellent in midfield after a couple of poor games by his high standards.

The back four in general have been exceptional recently. The full backs, who have come in for criticism from myself on a number occasions in the past, have improved dramatically over the last few months and once again played well.

Bahre was poor throughout and I’d be looking to drop him for the trip to Donny. For a player who clearly has a lot of talent and technical ability, I must say I have been mainly disappointed with him this season.

He has had the odd good game but certainly more poor games than good as far as I am concerned. Miles more inconsistent than George Moncur and nowhere near as good as Moncur to begin with.

I would bring in Styles for the Doncaster game and go with a more 4-1-4-1 formation. I thought Styles looked the part when he came on against Accrington and deserves a start given the players we have available.

I would also give Jordan Williams a go on the right in place of Green who wasn’t as affective against Sunderland as he had been previously. Williams played quite well when he came on so deserves a chance given that Hedges seems to be out of favour.

The important thing after this game is that it is in our hands. I really want automatic this season, I love the play offs but if we’ve been challenging for automatic and just miss out then I don’t think that the paly offs are a foregone conclusion like they were in 2016.

My team to play Donny:

Davies

Cavare, Pinnock, Lindsay, Pinillos

Dougall

J Williams, Styles, Mowatt, Thiam

Woodrow

Subs: Walton, Jackson, Williams, Hedges, Green, Victor, Bahre

Reds Ratings v Sunderland:

Davies              8

Cavare              7

LINDSAY          9

Pinillos             8

Green               5

Dougall             6

Mowatt             8

Thiam               8

Bahre                4

Woodrow          7
