Emnes Scores Winner

Promising signs can be drawn from Boro's FA Cup 4th round clash with Wolves today with a 2-1 away victory at the Molineux against the Championship high flyers. Goals from Afonso Alves and Marvin Emnes are indeed a promising sign following recent fan crticism.

The match marks four goals in as many games for Brazillian, Alves who looked far more composed and batlling then he perhaps has done in recent less fruitful games, and 20-year old Emnes looked bright off the bench putting away his goal superbly. One worrying aspect from this match was injuries to Shawky, Taylor, and Alves ahead of a tough test midweek at Stamford Bridge. It is a shame for Alves in particular to come off injured just as he appeared to be hitting form, and our midfield is looking perilously thin ahead of the game at Chelsea.

As the Boro currently lie in the relegation zone, questions are being asked if we have enough to stay in the Premier league this season. Southgate himself has mentioned that promising cup performances have often lead to better league football from the Boro - and hopefully this will be the much needed injection of confidence that we were looking for. Marlon King's switch for Mido from Wigan will hopefully add some much needed grit to the frontline, considering when we did play Mido we often resorted to a poor hoofing game towards the frontman, and we can only hope we dont do the same when King plays. Southgate is likely thinking and hoping that King will link up well with Alves as a hold-up striker to bag some more goals up the field.

Anyway, good bit of determination from the Boro today and who knows they might surprise us and get something from the midweek match!

I think we should enjoy the week-end and go to Chelsea full of optimism. Tomorrow we'll need to worry about who will play in centre midfield.
