Middlesbrough stumbled to an uninspired 3-0 defeat against Fulham due to goals from Bullard, Murphy and Dempsey. It all could have been conisderably more damaging if not for Ross Turnbull pulling out some assured stops in goal, though little consolation can be taken from todays result. Boro were once again victim to a controversial penalty decision, when Tony McMahon's clearance was unfortunate enough to rebound off his hand and referee Stroud after consideration with his assistant adjudged it to be a penalty harshly against McMahon and Middlesbrough. Middlesbrough's only real opportunities of the game came midway through the first half, when Johnson's shot was blocked by Mark Schwartzer and Tuncay placed his header wide of the post.

Perhaps more alarming was that after Fulhams three goals Boro were unable to launch any sort of convincing fightback in the remaining 30 minutes of the game. It must bring forward the question as to whether this young Boro side has the capabilties to scrap it out when we are beginning once again to flirt with relegation near the christmas period. The absence of Didier Digard from the team today may have been somewhat influential after his impressive recent performances. We have put ourselves in a worrying position ahead of tough fixtures against Everton and Man United and we need to show more bite if we are going to pull ourselves out of this.
