EVERTON BOSS DAVID MOYES WAS DELIGHTED WITH LAST NIGHTS PERFORMANCE IN THERE LATE SEASON CHARGE FOR A EUROPEAN PLACE....

David Moyes has hailed his Everton side for a gutsy victory at Champions League-chasing Manchester City.

The Blues completed the double over Roberto Mancini's men with a hard-fought 2-0 victory at Eastlands courtesy of a deft 33rd minute header from Tim Cahill and a late strike from Mikel Arteta.

The Aussie's seventh goal of the season paved the way for a crucial victory on a night when results elsewhere were favourable for Moyes' men.

Birmingham lost at Blackburn and Aston Villa failed to take all three points at home against Sunderland. It means the Toffees are now just three points off the top seven going into Saturday's awayday at Wolves.

Moyes said: "It was great tonight. The players did really well and deserved the victory for the way they went about it.

"There were a few scary moments but overall we had good parts of the game and played very well. We have won a really important game. Throughout the whole team we had people who performed really well.

"We have said to the players that if we want to do anything at all we need to show it against the big teams. Our football at the moment is terrific and the second goal especially was a great goal."

The manager also reserved special praise for youngster Jack Rodwell, the architect of the second goal with a powerful and skilfull run down the right flank.

He added: "Jack did brilliantly for the goal. He has shown that attacking side of his game in recent weeks. he had a bit of a hamstring strain in training yesterday but he didn't show it when he was running down that line and pulling the ball back."

That strike sealed the victory. But it was Cahill's header that paved the way.

He added: "We haven't got lots of big players in the team so we have to show lots of imagination in our football. And they showed that with the first goal."
