Everton have decided not to offer young Port Vale striker James Lawrie a contract after the youngster failed to impress the manager while on trial.

Manager David Moyes took at close look at the highly rated 18 year old over the last week but saw nothing that could have persuaded him to make a bid for the player.

Lawrie has already been capped at senior level by Northern Ireland and is now on  is now on international duty before he returns to Vale Park ahead of the new season.

He made eight league starts and 10 substitute appearances for the Valiants last term, scoring two goals.
