Nottingham Forest have failed in their efforts to improve the squad during the January transfer window, despite having repeatedly stated that signings were needed and having made a number of public bids for their targets. Click here to read the full story....

The club now faces a frustrated backlash from supporters who have again been left disappointed by the January inactivity.

High-earning midfielder Neil Lennon, who began the season as captain, has left the club to join Wycombe Wanderers on a free transfer.

But the only incoming transfer is that of Gareth McCleary from Conference South side Bromley.

Forest had a number of well-documented bids for Coventry City striker Leon Best rejected, despite the player expressing his desire to sign for his hometown club.

Meanwhile runaway leaders Swansea boosted their squad with the loan signing of Manchester United striker Febian Brandy, and promotion rivals Leeds United were the most active side in the league – adding prolific hitman Anthony Elding just days after new manager Gary McAllister took charge.

Supporters will be forgiven for wondering why the club’s promotion rivals were so clinical in the transfer market by contrast, and for asking why Forest clearly did not have a contingency plan.

The only option now is for the club to pursue an emergency loan.

But in the meantime, The Daily Red will be searching for a bookmaker willing to take bets on the club issuing any of the following statements over the coming days or weeks:

“We made a series of very generous offers, but we will not be held to ransom”

“Our main priority was keeping hold of our most talented players”

“Junior Agogo is like a new signing”

You get the idea.
