Simon Mignolet

Steve Bruce's second signing of the summer was that of highly rated Belgian goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

Mignolet was sold on Sunderland the minute he set foot inside the Stadium of Light according to reports from SAFC.com.

The 22 year old, 6 foot 4 'keeper, has signed a 5 year deal on Wearside with interest being shown all over Europe for the promising 22-year-old.

"I am very proud to be here."

"It is a great club with great supporters and a great stadium. I have seen it all and it was clear to me that I wanted to come here.

"I had a chat with the manager and the goalkeeping coach, and they told me what I can achieve here.

"The stadium, the facilities - everything about the club is massive. When you're a young kid like me it's impressive and I'm very happy to be here."

And the keeper admits his meteoric rise has been tough to take in, admitting he "can't wait" to get stuck into his latest challenge.

"Three years ago I was still on the bench in my home town of Sint-Truiden. After that, I've had three years in the first team and enjoyed a good season last year.

"Many teams noticed that, as well as Sunderland. But I wanted to come here to be part of the team and I am very happy to be here now."

"Competition is normal when you come to the Premier League. It is something you have to have in professional football.

"Of course I have to compete with other players and by doing that I will only get better.

"I am aware I'm only 22 and have a lot to learn. I think I can learn and progress in the time I am here."
