Valencia have the Hulk, even Newcastle have Spiderman, At Sunderland we have FLASH Gordon. The often criticised goal keeper put in a superb display earning his side a point in yesterday's match with Man City.

Sunderland came out flying and full of confidence after the 4-0 thrashing of Bolton on Tuesday night and deservedly went ahead after Kenwyne Jones met a great cross from the back-in-form Steed Malbranque sending the ball crashing into the top corner of Given's net after just 9 minutes.

Throughout the whole first half the black cats were well on top of the supposed 'top 4' blue half of Manchester side prompting the manager, Roberto Mancini, to bring on a striker in place of a defender in the form of Roque Santa Cruz for Wayne Bridge.

However, Sunderland lost Kenwyne Jones to injury at half time and that was the turning point in the game.

The second half saw Man City come out all guns blazing and without Kenwyne up front the ball just kept coming straight back at us.

The seemingly inevitable happened in injury time when Sunderland born Adam Johnson curled the ball into the very top corner of Craig Gordon's goal.

It was going to take something special to beat Gordon in the form he was in yesterday, but Johnson managed to, as they say, pull a rabbit from his hat.

Things are looking up for Sunderland after a 14 game winless streak.

Gordon is in form and looks unbeatable.

Hutton looks to be a good acquisition. Anton looks good at left back and John Mensah has been immense when fit.

Steed Malbranque, now back in favour, is playing how we know he can, Fraizer looks to be finding some form on the win. David Meyler came in and did a good job and I for one didn't think we missed Lorik Cana at all - it was nice to have some attacking intentions in the centre of midfield.

Bent and Jones are linking up well and always look dangerous.
