Sunderland were unlucky not to take all 3 points from Old Trafford in a game in which they bossed, led twice and were never behind in - a feat not many will achieve in the near future. Darren Bent opened the scoring inside the first 7 minutes before Man Utd equalised. Kenwyne Jones got the second before Patice Evra's shot was deflected in in injury time.

And after the game Black cats Boss Steve Bruce couldn't hide his disappointment.

Darren Bent scored early on, but Dimitar Berbatov equalised for United before Kenwyne Jones re-established a lead for Sunderland, who had Kieran Richardson sent off late on.

"You'll always take a point at Old Trafford, but it's disappointing to concede so late and it feels like we've been beaten," he told SAFC TV.

"The manner of the performance from certain individuals and indeed the whole team was excellent, I couldn't ask for more.

"We just needed a little more luck to hang on - and having 11 men on the pitch would have helped as well."

Bruce's plan to play with two up front and attack the champions almost worked perfectly. Bruce added: "Overall I'm delighted with the performance and we were almost rewarded with a win.

"I couldn't pick a better first-half performance than us coming here and playing the way we did.

Benty and Kenwyne always provide a threat. We were brave enough to go two up top and it almost worked.

I'm just disappointed we couldn't hang on."

"I'd like to thank the fans who travelled today; they were fantastic," he said. "They've seen their team come and perform at Old Trafford and I'm sure a lot of them will go back happy."
