Steve Bruce's Sunderland got off to a good start in this years premiership campaign with an impressive 1-0 away win over Gary Megson's Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok. The only goal of the game came after just 6 minutes when new boy Darren Bent steered a header into the net off Jaaskalainen's post.

Sunderland we're the only team in the game and dominated the first 60 minutes of the match and should have been 3 or 4 up by half time.

But 'keeper Martin Fulop stood up to the test when he was called upon just before half time and in the last minute, producing two game saving saves.

New signings Lee Cattermole and Lorik Cana bossed the midfield and look a great partnership, as do Kenwyne Jones and Darren Bent, who have forged a better partnership already than the one that failed to exist between Djibril Cissé and the big Trinidad and Tobagan striker.

Steed Malbranque came off at half time and is reported to have a knock - Malbranque was replaced by Jordan Henderson who looked lively.

Bolton came back into the game for the last 30 minutes but couldn't break down the black cats defence.

Man of the match could've gone to either Fulop, for his two excellent saves or Cattermole who bossed the midfield.

Bring on Chelsea on Tuesday night.
