Republic of Ireland international striker Daryl Murphy is set to join Premier League strugglers Hull City for an initial fee of £1.5million. Murphy, who played in 27 games last season, scored no goals.

"We've agreed terms with Sunderland but there's a long way to go," said Tigers boss Phil Brown.

"I won't be able to talk to him until I'm back from Italy on Thursday and he'll have to undergo a medical."

"He's been playing out of position on the left for Sunderland but there's a good striker in there," added Brown.

The initial £1.5 million fee is set to rise to £2.5million depending on clauses set by Sunderland.
