Match Report  

An exciting match that was very fast for the first 30 minutes.  The Warriors were always in control of the match with players taking the opportunity to shine and try and book their place in the first team. With the first team playing so well yesterday though it was always going to be a difficult task.  Eight tries to one with Jonny showing off on the wing and achieving a hat trick.  Other tries were awarded to Stewart Pearl, Alister Livesey, Tom Arscott, Chris Lowrie and Jon Fabian. Nick Defty had a 50% record of conversions but there was a strong cross wind. Redruth left it until the last minute to score their consultation converted try.

Like yesterdays match against London Welsh the Warriors had the upper hand and the run of the ball and within seven minutes Tom Arscott passed out to Jonny Marlin for him to score his first try right in the corner.  A try from a driving Maul was scored we think by Stewart Pearl who had a good all round game.  This one was converted by Nick to bring the score to 12 - 0.  Just two minutes later Tom Arscott crossed the line to shouts of "under the posts" which he got close enough for Nick again to convert.  Then another driving maul with advantage already awarded by the ref for offside allowed Alister Livesey to be awarded a try which again was converted by Nick. Five minutes on and Jonny was again over in the corner but was too far out for Nick to convert this time. As we approached half time and again from a driving maul Chris Lowrie was last man up after they crossed the line fortunately the ref was close enough to award the try as the touch judge was unsighted from less that 5 metres. This brought the change around and the score to 36 - 0.

On the restart Redruth seemed to be more motivated and the match was more balanced but the Warriors still kept control and within five minutes Jonny went over to complete his hat trick and Nick converted to draw even further away. The game settled down and the play was up and down the pitch with no score.  Redruth had a number of opportunities which they were not able to fully take advantage of. On 74 minutes from a quick throw in deep in the Warriors half,  to Nick Defty who then ran across the pitch suffered a high tackle, just short of the 22, that many a day would have seen a player spend ten minutes off the pitch resulted in a penalty which nothing much came of. As we entered injury time and yet another run on the wing Jonny Marlin looked as though he could be in for scoring his forth try of the day but he unselfishly passed out to full back Jon Fabian to bring the total to just two short of the half century. The final play of the game saw Redruth score their only points of the game with a converted try.

My man of the match was Jonny Marlin although the Warriors played for the most part as a team and if you pass the ball out to the wings then your wingers are going to score and shine.
