Zimbabwean central defender international Zvenyika Makonese is reportedly keen on joining Latics as news filters through that he is also being watched by Aston Villa and newly promoted Reading.

On joining Latics he said: "I like their standard of play and given an opportunity I should make it in the side. Wigan are an ambitious side and it would be good to play for them."

And on joining the Premier League he said: “It has always been my dream to take my career anywhere in Europe. But the idea of playing in England is still sounding like a dream."

 

It is believed Makonese’s team, Santos in South Africa would be willing to let him go at the end of the season, despite there being a year left on his contract: "This will definitely be my last season in South Africa. Santos have indicated that they won't stand in my way."
