Aston Villa boss David O'Leary has assured defender Mark Delaney that he wants him to stay at the club despite the fact that they have only one more week to make him a contract offer.
The Welsh international defender, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury, has an extra 12-month clause in his contract but as the situation stands, Villa have not yet activated that clause and Delaney will be free to leave in the summer.
However, despite accepting Delaney's transfer request in January, Villa boss David O'Leary has confirmed that he wants to keep the defender for another twelve months.
"The club has stated all along they will make that decision on the day they have to do it," O'Leary said.
"I want the boy to stay without a doubt. I've given my recommendation to the club that I want him to stay. I hope the response will be a positive one."
