BARRY TARGETS CARLING CUP SUCCESS

Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry believes that a win against Burnley in tomorrow night's Carling Cup clash could be the turning point in Villa's so far troubled season. With The Villans sitting in a lowly 15th place in the Premiership table, a win against Championship outfit Burnley is essential. However, with the Clarets having knocked Villa out of the competition at the same stage last season, Gareth Barry is urging his team-mates not to take victory for granted.

Speaking earlier today, Barry commented, "If we are not on the ball in terms of effort, then we'll get beaten. Burnley may not play against any bigger clubs this season than us, so they will be fired up for it.

"A big club like Villa should see this competition as a route into Europe. We will be taking it very seriously, but it will be a tough game.

"Any sort of win, even though it is expected of us, can boost morale and we're obviously looking to put on a performance for the fans as well."
