Aston Villa boss David O'Leary has been charged by the FA for using abusive and insulting words towards a match official after last Sunday's win over Birmingham. However, O'Leary, who ran onto the pitch after the match, will not be charged for his much criticised celebrations.

Referring to the celebrations, the FA said, "As a manager, there are rules of conduct that should be adhered to. Any future report of a similar nature may be followed by disciplinary proceedings."

Speaking to Aston Villa's official website, O'Leary vowed that he will contest the charge. He said, "As for the charge against me, it is the first time in seven years as a manager that I have been charged with something like this and I've enjoyed a good relationship with officials all over Europe - including those on the touchline. I shall be requesting a personal hearing."
