It's owned by Evertonian Sid McGuinness, who was given the coat by Shankly - with whom he played table tennis. The retired head groundsman at Goodison Park also received a dinner suit and a pair of shoes.

Mr McGuinness is selling off his collection of memorabilia to pay for medical care.

However, the shoes won't be included because Mr McGuinness has worn them out.

Auctioneer Oliver Hambly said: "The coat was the most special gift as Bill used to wear it for all the important fixtures - it is clearly recognisable as Shankly's.

"They were a perfectly good pair of shoes and Sid decided he would wear them. So for years he was walking around in Bill Shankly's shoes and now they are worn through."
