Saint Johnstone’s move for Sligo boss Paul Cook broke down today, leaving them searching for a replacement for Derek McInnes. 

The move for Cook broke down today following talks with Chairman Geoff Brown, it would appear the stumbling block was the fact Cook would not move his family over to Scotland.

Brown is looking for stability at his club and this is a sign he is looking for some commitment from his next manager. But he may have cut off his nose to spite his face here, as a number of clubs now operate with their manager’s home base being miles away.

Motherwell operate with both their manager and assistant manager still having their families living down south and this doesn’t appear to have affected them this season.

Interestingly one of the people who has thrown his hat in the ring today is Mark McGhee, who appears to be trying to get into as many media outlets as he can as he looks to get back into employment.

It is interesting as when he was manager at Motherwell andAberdeenhe never moved his family north from Brighton to stay inScotland, would he be prepared to do it for St. Johnstone?

I hope Brown doesn’t go back to one of the usual suspects and continues to think outside the box with this appointment as he has done with others in the past.
