After yesterday’s defeat to Celtic the Dons boss gave a masterclass in misleading stats and spin, did he fool anyone.

Craig Brown is well known as a manager who uses statistics to convince people his team actually did something well in a game even though they had, in truth, been soundly beaten. This gave rise to the classic Only an Excuse line where he is heard to mumble, “we tied our shoe laces better than they did….”

Last night on Sky Sports News this love of stats as a tool of spin were shown up for what they are, a load of rubbish! As he was telling us his new hard working side had restricted the scoring opportunities in the game the side bar was showing stats that Celtic had TWENTY FIVE shots at goal with FIFTEEN on target!!

He claimed they scored with their only real shot on target, and Gonzales had little to do in the 90 minutes – well who stopped the 15 shots on target? Was it the stats fairy?

Hopefully for the Dons fans he doesn’t believe what he is saying, and when he gets into the privacy of the dressing room he is telling his side something completely different.

Having watched most of the game his side seemed content to pack the defence and give the ball away at every opportunity, thus restricting the chances they could make!!

God knows what would have happened if the Dons had come out and taken Celtic on, maybe they would have got 50 attempts at goal.

Come on Craig admit it you chose the wrong job back in December and you really want to be back at Motherwell…..
