Rangers drew 1-1 with Malmo to lose 1-2 on aggregate in a bad tempered match which saw three players sent off.
goal that would get them back in the match. But they were dealt a massive blow when Steven Whittaker was sent off, for a kicking the ball off aMalmoplayer in retaliation to a poor tackle.
The pain was eased when they opened the scoring on 23 minutes, when Nikica Jelavic’s volley levelled the tie.
Another red card in the second half reduced Rangers to 10 men with Madjid Bougherra sent off this time, in what could be his last game for the club before a glamour move to theMiddle East.
This made it mission impossible for the Ibrox side, but things looked to be made a bit easier when Malmo were reduced to ten men, with Ricardinho being sent off. But the extra man was to prove too much for Rangers asMalmoscored to seal the tie with ten minutes left. The tie was put beyond Rangers when Jiloan HAmad scored.
Rangers now drop into the Qualifying Rounds for the Europa League along with Celtic, and Hearts if they can win tomorrow against Pakis of Hungary.
We have started the season early this season with a view to helping our European sides. Sadly we have lost two already, with Dundee United and Rangers out already.
Hopefully the Old Firm will go as far as they can in the Europa League, and help the co-efficient points for the rest of the sides!!
This result will also put the young reign of Ally McCoist into a sharp focus, and could make it a short appointment at Ibrox for the cheeky chappie!!
