Calderwood

Birmingham City have asked permission from Hibs to speak to Manager Colin Calderwood to take up the post as Assistant Manager.

Newly appointed Blues boss Chris Hughton is looking to team up with his former assistant from their time together at Newcastle United.

Calderwood left the Magpies to take over at Easter Rd on October following the departure of John Hughes. He steered them clear of relegation after being allowed to bring in his own players in January.

The Easter Rd side eventually finished a disappointing 10^th, only 11 points ahead of relegated Hamilton.

Calderwood was actually linked with the Birmingham job when Alex McLeish moved to Aston Villa, he was also linked with a return to Nottingham Forest after Billy Davies was sacked.

It will be interesting to see if the lure of a return to the Championship will be too tempting for Calderwood.

It will also be interesting to see who gets linked with the job, will it be the usual suspects, Jimmy Calderwood, Mark McGhee or a move for Terry Butcher. Or will Hibs spring a surprise and look further afield. The first name linked with the post is Livingston Manager Garry Bollan who steered Livi to promotion to the First Division last season.
